A Life of Consecration

5 For behold, you shall conceive and bear a son. And no razor shall come upon his head, for the child shall be a Nazirite to God from the womb; and he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.”

Judges 13:5 (NKJV)

Yesterday, we saw how it is the purpose of God for us that we are fruitful. Fruitfulness is not a ‘maybe’ for us as believers, it is a ‘constant’ because that is what we are made to do on earth. That the world is influenced by our fruits and God is glorified through us. However, there is one required factor for truly living a fruitful life, and that is Consecration. 

In Judges chapter 13, God wanted to save Israel, and he sent Samson. But in order for Samson to be fruitful and achieve the purposes of God for his life, he needed to ensure that he continues in the consecrations that have been given to him. In verse 5, the angel told his mother that “no razor shall come upon his head”. This is one of the consecrations of nazirites, as samson is called to be.  

Consecration is the way of life with God. If you have truly chosen to live your life in fruitfulness to God, there are certain consecrations that would be a way of life. It is the way of priests and kings, as we are called to be. The law had a lot of regulations to keep the people consecrated, and the requirements for priests were even much stricter. This is to tell us that the more we grow in God, the deeper our consecrations become. This is the way of fruitfulness.

The disciples saw Jesus live that life of consecrations, his times of prayer, devotion to God, his choice to work silently until an appointed time, his zeal for the Father’s House, and so on. Our consecrations come in different shades. Also, note that it is not necessarily choosing not to sin. Consecrations go beyond ‘choosing to live a life free of sin’, it is about choosing to obey the demands of God over your life. For John the Baptist, it was about remaining in the wilderness until the day of his showing. For Daniel and the three Hebrews, it was about choosing not to eat the King’s meal. 

The question to you now is, “What is your consecration?” This is not about choosing something you saw from someone. But, as you grow in God, He will make certain demands upon your life. For some, it could be to maintain a particular time of prayer watch or study. For another, it could be that there are specific ways their day should start or end. Your consecration is a way of God training you in obedience. It is how you daily say to God that you are willing to obey Him. It is a declaration of your allegiance to God.

PRAYER

Father, I choose to live a life fully consecrated to you. Help me to walk in obedience to you, to do as you would have me. Teach me obedience and help me to make it a consistent walk with you.
