The blood on the doorpost did not work by proximity. It worked by application.
Every Israelite in Egypt lived near the blood that night. The lambs were slaughtered in the community. But nearness was not enough. The instruction was specific: take the blood and apply it to the doorposts of your house. The family that simply knew about the blood but did not apply it would have had no more protection than the Egyptians next door. Salvation that night was not a general atmosphere. It was a personal, deliberate act of faith.
Moses kept the Passover and the sprinkling of blood. That is an act of obedience so precise and so faith-driven that Hebrews credits it as one of the defining moments of his faith. He followed God’s instruction to the letter, and because he did, when the destroyer passed through Egypt that night, he passed over every house marked by the blood.
The New Testament makes the connection explicit. Christ is our Passover lamb, sacrificed for us. His blood has been shed. The provision exists. But provision must be applied. The cross is not merely a historical event to be admired from a distance. It is a reality to be received, appropriated, and applied to the doorposts of your life, your family, your household, your day. Faith is the act of taking what God has provided and personally applying it.
There is something in your life today that needs the blood applied to it. A relationship, a fear, a temptation, a household, a situation that the destroyer has been circling. Do not just know about the blood. Apply it. Pray it over the situation by name. Declare the covering of Christ over what is yours. Faith takes the provision off the shelf and puts it to work.
Today, pray specifically and name the things and people in your life that you are placing under the covering of the blood of Jesus. Be deliberate. Be specific. Apply the blood.
Prayer
Father, thank you for the Lamb. Thank you that the blood has been shed and the provision is complete. Today I do not just acknowledge it from a distance. I apply it. I cover my home, my children, my marriage, my mind, my calling, and every open door the enemy has been watching, with the blood of Jesus. Let the destroyer find no entry here. I keep the Passover today by faith, trusting in the complete and final work of your Son. In Jesus’ name, amen.
