April 3: Faith That Walks With God Daily

By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, and was not found, because God had taken him; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God.” — Hebrews 11:5 (NKJV)

Most people want a dramatic encounter with God. Enoch had something better.

We live in a culture that chases spiritual highs, the powerful conference, the goosebump moment, the vision that stops you in your tracks. And while God certainly moves in dramatic ways, the story of Enoch quietly challenges us to want something deeper than the spectacular. Enoch did not have a Red Sea moment. He did not build anything, defeat anyone, or leave behind a single recorded word. What he had was a walk, steady, daily, unbroken, until the day heaven was simply closer than earth.

Genesis gives us his epitaph in one sentence: Enoch walked with God. It does not say he performed for God, argued with God, or occasionally checked in with God. He walked with Him. Walking is not a sprint. It is not a mountaintop experience. It is the quiet, rhythmic movement of two people who have decided to go the same direction, at the same pace, together. Day after ordinary day, Enoch chose God’s company over the noise of the world around him, and over three hundred and sixty-five years, that choice shaped him into someone whose very presence belonged more to heaven than to earth.

Hebrews adds a layer that Genesis only implies. Before Enoch was taken, he had a testimony: he pleased God. That phrase is worth carrying with you. Not that he was perfect, not that he never stumbled, but that the consistent direction of his life, the orientation of his heart, was toward God. And Hebrews 11:6 follows immediately with this: without faith it is impossible to please Him. Enoch’s walk was a faith walk. Every morning he chose to believe that God was real, that God was near, and that God was worth walking with again today. That belief, repeated daily, became a life.

The ending of his story is one of the most quietly stunning moments in all of Scripture. One day, Enoch walked with God and was not, for God took him. He simply walked so closely, so consistently, so deeply in step with God, that the transition from earth to heaven was almost seamless. He did not so much die as arrive. The walk continued; it just changed location.

Today, before the demands of the day pull you in every direction, take ten minutes to simply be with God. Not to ask for anything, not to present a list, just to walk. Talk to Him the way you would talk to someone you trust completely. Tell Him what is on your mind. Listen. Let the day begin in step with Him rather than ahead of Him. Intimacy with God is not built in a single dramatic moment; it is built in ten minutes today, and ten minutes tomorrow, and ten minutes the day after, until one day you realise you are no longer walking toward God. You are walking with Him.

Prayer

Father, I want what Enoch had. Not the translation, though that is glorious, but the walk. I want the kind of relationship with you where your presence is more familiar to me than my own breath, where I am so consistently in step with you that the distance between heaven and earth grows thin. Forgive me for the days I have been too busy, too distracted, or too self-sufficient to simply walk with you. Today I slow down. I choose your company over the noise. Teach me to please you, not through performance, but through presence. I want my life to carry the testimony that I walked with you. In Jesus’ name, amen.
