But You Must Really Believe

I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen. But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart.

Today is the last day of April! In the past twenty nine days, we have been speaking about the wonderful miracles of Jesus and learning the postures of people who received them. However, we know that miracles are still possible today but the question is how can we position ourselves to receive them? 

In Mark 11:20-25, Jesus demonstrates the power of faith-filled prayer through the lesson of the withered fig tree. The previous day, Jesus had cursed the fig tree, and by the following morning, it had withered completely. When Peter pointed out the withered tree to Jesus, He used the occasion to teach His disciples about the incredible power of faith.

Jesus emphasizes the importance of having unwavering faith in God. He tells His disciples that if they have faith and do not doubt in their hearts, they can speak to mountains and see them move. This statement is not just about physical mountains but symbolic of any seemingly impossible situation. Jesus assures His disciples that with faith, nothing is impossible.

Furthermore, Jesus teaches that faith is best exercised through prayer. He assures His disciples that whatever they ask for in prayer, believing that they have received it, will be theirs. This underscores the intimate connection between faith and prayer. When we pray with faith, believing in God’s power and provision, we open ourselves up to receive the miraculous.

As Christians, we are called to believe that with God, all things are possible. Instead of complaining about our circumstances or feeling overwhelmed by challenges, we are encouraged to express our faith through prayer. Just as Jesus spoke to the fig tree and saw it wither, so too can we speak to our situations in faith, trusting in God’s ability to intervene and bring about change.

Let us, therefore, approach God in prayer with unwavering faith, believing that He hears our petitions and is able to answer them according to His will. Let’s not be discouraged by the size of our mountains but instead be emboldened by the power of our God. And as we pray, let us also heed Jesus’ reminder to forgive others, so that we may experience the fullness of God’s forgiveness in our own lives.
