Do You Have a Wrong Meter Number Too?

Recently, the Ikeja electric people finally brought us the prepaid meter we paid for since forever. They gave us a mobile device linked to the meter which can be used to recharge it electronically. As a good citizen that I am, I was very quick to fund it considerably. I had confidence that with the amount of money I have on it, I should be OK for a while. Not long after that, I was out of power and everybody was enjoying power.

I refused to believe that my power credit has been exhausted but just to rule it out, I paid another money on the meter still no light. I concluded it was a technical fault. Long story short, in the process of investigating the problem, we realized the electrician gave me the connector for my neighbour’s meter and gave her mine, I’m sure you know the rest of the story, I have been recharging my neighbour’s meter all along, while mine was empty without knowing it. By the time we figured it out, my neighbour was out of town and I had to keep burning fuel on the generator pending her return. It was a very frustrating couple of days.

The real question is what could I have done differently? Nothing really! I trusted a man who was supposed to be an expert, but it turns out that even the expert sometimes gets it wrong too, only God is perfect. As we make critical life decisions, it is always important for us to trust the expert and seek their opinions but more importantly, those opinions mustn’t replace God’s.

The marriage counselor is good at what he or she does, she can make projections and permutations based on the available facts at her disposal now but it’s never the absolute truth. The career professional may be able to advise you based on organizational prospects and all but can they really imagine if any natural or man-made disaster will strike the next minute and a company’s net worth will suddenly be worth nothing? Only God knows the end from the beginning.

So, while it’s important to note that in a multitude of counsel there is safety (Proverbs 11:14); don’t ever forget to trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways, acknowledge him and he shall direct your path (Proverbs 3:5-6).
