During that Long Period (1)

During that long period, the king of Egypt died. The Israelites groaned in their slavery and cried out, and their cry for help because of their slavery went up to God

Exodus 2: 23

There’s always a long period in every believer’s life, a time when you know that God loves you, He’s working out something in your life, but you just don’t understand it. 

Mine was in September 2022. I had moved to Canada from Nigeria following God’s counsel, and the journey was so prosperous. I was getting everything so fast, and it was like magic until I started applying for jobs. I set a target of five to ten applications daily, and for almost three months, I received a ‘No’ from every single one. Imagine the volume of rejection emails I received. 

Those moments drove me closer to God. My first son also couldn’t get into school, leaving me with no choice but to spend more time with my family. Though it seemed like a burden at the time, when I finally got the job, I missed those days. It was a great opportunity to settle many things in the place of prayer. My character was built and my personality reformed. When God eventually gave me the job, I wasn’t as excited about the job itself as I was about what He had actually done in my life through the process. 

When Moses got into trouble and fled to Midian for safety, he was unaware that it was God’s arrangement to reform and reset his life. During that period, God found him a wife and Moses settled down with a family of his own, the King that was hunting for him died, and his character was reformed from the ambitious saviour seeking to save Israelites in the arm of flesh, into a shepherd seeking to care for the sheep. He moved from the man who was hoping to save Israel using his Egyptian connections to solely depending on God. 

I don’t know if you’re already in your own ‘Long Period’ and desperately hoping it will end. Please look around closely to see the works God is doing in your life, don’t miss what He’s trying to settle right now. And if you can’t see them, ask Him to open your eyes.
