Faith Over Fear

Key Verse:
“But the midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the male children alive.” – Exodus 1:17 (NKJV)

Fear has a way of silencing us, especially when authority or danger is involved. The king of Egypt had given a terrifying command: kill every Hebrew boy at birth. For two midwives, Shiphrah and Puah, the choice was clear but costly: obey Pharaoh or honor God. They chose faith over fear. Instead of bowing to the most powerful man in the land, they stood firm before the Almighty, proving that reverence for God outweighs the threats of men.

Isn’t this a tension we all face? At work, when integrity is tested. Among friends, when our convictions are unpopular. Even in private, when no one sees but God. Fear often whispers, “What if you lose your job? What if they reject you? What if you fail?” But faith shouts louder, “God is greater! Obey Him first!” Like the midwives, we may not have armies or titles, but courage rooted in God’s fear can change the story.

Faith over fear doesn’t mean the absence of trembling-it means choosing obedience even while trembling. The midwives probably felt the weight of Pharaoh’s wrath, yet their trust in God gave them the courage to defy him. In the same way, faith equips us to face the pressures and dangers of our day with confidence that God honors obedience. Their act of courage preserved a generation, and God Himself rewarded them.

Where is God calling you to choose faith over fear today? It may not look like standing before Pharaoh, but it could be refusing to compromise your integrity, speaking truth when silence feels safer, or stepping into a calling that looks risky. Remember: fear sees the power of man, but faith sees the power of God.

Prayer:
Lord, give me the heart of the midwives who chose to fear You above all else. Strengthen my faith to rise above fear, and give me courage to obey even when it’s risky. I choose to trust Your power over every human authority. In Jesus’ name, amen.
