Do you still remember Brother Judas? Yes, the one who betrayed Jesus for thirty pieces of silver. His betrayal, of course, didn’t end well, as he eventually committed suicide. With Judas no longer among the disciples, there was a vacancy among the twelve, leaving them in need of a replacement. However, rather than relying solely on human wisdom or their own judgement, the disciples turned to the Scriptures for guidance.
“For,” said Peter, “it is written in the Book of Psalms: “May his place be deserted; let there be no one to dwell in it,” and, “May another take his place of leadership.” (Acts 1:20, NIV). By turning to the Word of God, specifically Psalm 109:8, the disciples sought divine direction in choosing a replacement for Judas.
Are you seeing what I’m seeing here? This act is a powerful reminder of the importance of seeking guidance from God’s Word in all aspects of our lives. Just as the disciples relied on Scripture to make decisions to fill the gap left by Judas, we too can find direction, wisdom, and clarity through the timeless truths of God’s Word.
The Bible is not merely a collection of ancient writings; it is the living and active Word of God (Hebrews 4:12). It provides us with guidance for every situation we may face, offering insight, comfort, correction, and encouragement. When we immerse ourselves in Scripture, allowing it to dwell richly in our hearts and minds; we position ourselves to be led by God’s Spirit.
As followers of Christ, we are called to commit ourselves to the diligent study and application of God’s Word. We need to heed the psalmist’s exhortation to “meditate on [God’s] precepts and consider [His] ways” (Psalm 119:15, NIV), allowing His Word to illuminate our path and guide our steps each day.
Heavenly Father, thank you for the precious gift of your Word, which serves as a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Teach me to treasure your Word and to seek guidance from its timeless truths in every area of my life. Let your Holy Spirit lead me into all truth as I immerse myself in Scripture and apply its principles in my daily walk.
