Go in this might of yours

14 Then the Lord turned to him and said, “Go in this might of yours, and you shall save Israel from the hand of the Midianites. Have I not sent you?”

Judges 6:14 (NKJV)

Yesterday we saw how Gideon was asking questions on the evidence of God’s presence. And we saw that God’s presence on its own does not guarantee anything yet, until we engage His presence adequately. The beautiful thing here is the Angel’s response to Gideon. He didn’t even answer his question. Someone might wonder how his response answers Gideon’s question about the presence of God.

This is because the fact that the Angel is talking to Gideon in itself is proof of God’s presence on him. Also because the situation of the Israelites were the consequences of their own actions. So, why go back to look at all of these. The Angel moved forward to help Gideon see the outcome of engaging the presence of God. The presence of God now gives Gideon an empowerment and ability beyond his own physical strength to save the people of Israel.

Jer 33:3 says, “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” This shows us that engaging God’s presence does something to us because it gives us that which is of God. The more we engage His presence, the more we are able to do the works of God strengthened by God.

What does this mean to us? It shows that we have the advantage when we engage the presence of God. This is where we are strengthened to live above the ordinary. This is where we are transformed and can operate beyond our weaknesses. It was by engaging the presence of God that Gideon would be able to lead Israel to victory with three hundred men. Therefore, this is a call to not just be aware that God’s presence is with you, but to actually engage His presence in your everyday life. You cannot afford to live normally in this world. The presence of God is our advantage, and we must maximise it appropriately. As the Psalmist says in Psalms 23 that, “I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever”. This is meant to be our way of life – engaging the presence of God at all times.

PRAYER

Father, thank you for your presence that is always with me. Teach me to daily engage your presence. I choose to live with the advantage of your presence, where you can show me great and mighty things that I do not know. Because you are with me, I rise above every opposition and challenges that I face. I am more than conqueror.
