“Tell the Israelites: ‘When any of you or your descendants are unclean because of a dead body or are away on a journey, they are still to celebrate the Lord’s Passover, but they are to do it on the fourteenth day of the second month at twilight.
Numbers 9:10-11
Yesterday, we spoke briefly about remembering the passover – a symbolic reminder that the miracle of salvation is a serious matter that we should be grateful to God for. We drew this analogy because God instructed the Isrealites through Moses to celebrate the passover.
However, In Numbers 9:6-15, we realized that some of the Israelites were unable to participate in the Passover feast due to ceremonial uncleanness. However, God, in His mercy and grace, provided them with a second chance to observe the Passover one month later.
Just like I mentioned yesterday, the Passover was a significant event in Israel’s calendar, commemorating their deliverance from slavery in Egypt. Yet, despite the importance of this feast, there were times when individuals found themselves unable to partake in it due to various reasons, such as ceremonial uncleanness.
Ceremonial uncleanness in the Old Testament often symbolized falling into sin or disobedience. Just as the Israelites were unable to participate in the Passover feast because of their uncleanness, so too do we find ourselves feeling separated from God when we fall into sin today.
However, the beauty of God’s character is His abundant grace and mercy. Even when we stumble and fall, He offers us a second chance to turn back to Him and receive forgiveness and restoration. Just as He gave the Israelites a second opportunity to observe the Passover, He extends the same grace to us today.
The apostle John writes, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). God’s forgiveness is readily available to all who humbly repent and seek His mercy.
When we fall into sin, the enemy often tries to convince us to run away from God in shame and guilt. But God’s desire is for us to run to Him, knowing that He stands ready to restore us.
We must learn to always embrace God’s mercy with gratitude and humility. We must never allow our past mistakes to hinder us from coming back to God in repentance and faith. Instead, we run into His loving arms, knowing that His grace is more than sufficient to cover our sins and set us free.
Heavenly Father, thank you for your abundant grace and mercy that extends to me, even in my moments of weakness and failure. Help me to recognize and embrace your mercy, knowing that your forgiveness is readily available to all who humbly repent. Give me the courage to run back to you if ever I fall into sin, trusting in your unfailing love and faithfulness. May your grace continue to transform and renew me, enabling me to walk in obedience and faithfulness to you, in Jesus’ name.
