So He bent over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. She got up at once and began to wait on them.
Luke 4:38-39 NIV
Yesterday, we saw how Jesus rebuked a demon that had attempted to disrupt his teaching service in the synagogue. It was quite a dramatic scene when Jesus said “Be quiet! Come out of him!” Then the demon threw the man down before them all and came out without injuring him.
Later in the afternoon, Jesus had another healing session but this time it was different; it was personal. “Jesus left the synagogue and went to the home of Simon. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever, and they asked Jesus to help her. So He bent over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. She got up at once and began to wait on them.” (Luke 4:38-39 NIV)
Notice the intimacy in this scene. Jesus didn’t merely speak a word from a distance; He approached her, He bent over her, and with a gentle touch, He banished the fever. In that act, Jesus showed us the personal care and compassion He extends to each one of us.
Likewise, in the busyness of our lives, Jesus doesn’t stand aloof. He bends down to us, knowing the specifics of our struggles and pains. He cares about the feverish moments, the areas of our lives that need His healing touch.
As you step into today, remember that Jesus is intimately involved in your story. He cares about the details of your life, both big and small. Just as Peter’s mother-in-law experienced immediate restoration, trust that Jesus is ready to bring healing and wholeness to your circumstances.
Take a moment to thank Him for His personal care, and entrust your day into His hands. May you experience the warmth of His touch and the assurance that you are seen, known, and deeply loved.
Dear Lord, your word says that even the very hairs of my head are all numbered. So I don’t need to be afraid because I am worth more than many sparrows. Thank you for such deep personal attention. Please help me to always remember how much you care whenever life situations try to make me feel otherwise.
