Here Come the Enemies!

They were greatly disturbed because the apostles were teaching the people, proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection of the dead.

Acts 4:2

Since Peter and John raised a man from his crippled state in the name of Jesus, we would have expected a national award to be given to them. But, instead, they were arrested by the religious authorities—the priests, the captain of the temple guard, and the Sadducees. How is that even possible?

Well, this incident is just another reminder that as followers of Christ, we are engaged in a spiritual battle against the forces of darkness. The world may oppose us, persecute us, and seek to silence us for this very reason: we bear the light of Christ within us. It doesn’t matter that the light is producing good things and making the world a better place. In fact, this is precisely why the world opposes us.

However, like Peter and John, we must stand firm in our faith, unwavering in the face of opposition. Though the world rejects us, God’s love for us remains steadfast and unwavering. Jesus Himself warned His disciples, “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first” (John 15:18).

In times of persecution and adversity, find comfort in the knowledge that we are not alone. God is with us, empowering us by His Spirit to overcome every obstacle and challenge. We are called to shine as ambassadors of Christ, illuminating the darkness with His light and sharing His love with a world in need.

Instead of retaliating with hatred or bitterness, we must respond with love and compassion, just as Jesus did. We must pray for those who persecute us, that they may come to know the truth and experience God’s transforming grace.

As we face opposition and adversity, may we find strength in the example of Peter and John, who remained steadfast in their faith and unwavering in their commitment to Christ. Let us stand firm in the truth of God’s word, knowing that nothing can separate us from His love.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, I thank you for the example of Peter and John, who stood firm in their faith despite facing opposition and persecution. Grant me the same courage and perseverance to boldly proclaim your gospel, even in the face of adversity. Help me to respond to hatred with love, to persecution with grace, and to darkness with your light. May your kingdom come and your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Amen.
