Hope You’re Not Getting Rusty?

GAS SELLER: Oga, I think this your gas cylinder is leaking o

ME: Really? Yes, I can see o. What happen, what is causing the leak?

GAS SELLER: Oga, it is rust o

ME: That’s caused by water right?

GAS SELLER: Yes sir, yes sir

ME: So, what can I do and how can I prevent this in the future. 

GASS SELLER: Well, you need to wash the cylinder more regularly

ME: But that’s not making sense, if water is causing the rust, washing it will only increase it don’t you think?

GAS SELLER: Sir, sometimes your greatest strength could also be your weakness, your worst enemy might just be your best friend in disguise and the problem might as well be the solution, it’s all about application. 

ME: Oga, are you going to explain all these your motivational talks or just tell me how it affects my gas cylinder?

GAS SELLER: Sorry sir, about that! The water is not exactly the problem, the problem is allowing the water to stay longer on the cylinder, remember it’s iron. When you wash it, you’re washing off any rust and after that you need to put it in the sun to dry off and use a dry cloth wipe it off. 

ME: Hmmmm. Isn’t this how people become rusty too?

GAS SELLER: What! Human being cannot become rusty na, are they iron?

ME: No they are not iron, but the principle you just shared works the same for everything

GAS SELLER: Sir, you will have to explain that one o

ME: Think of it this way. A lot of people stop growing after they acquired some level of achievements. They allowed that wave of achievement to get stuck on them like a washed gas that is not wiped. They keep boasting about it everywhere, whereas other people are making moves and leaving them behind. Very soon they will become rusty and if they don’t dust themselves up they will start leaking and soon become empty. 

GAS SELLER: Ha! Oga, this thing you’re saying is true o. Back in the day God was using me mightily in the choir in our church. After a while I wasn’t just serious with my relationship with God sha and it was telling on my music. For a long time now all I do is making references to ‘back in the day’ even though I’m still a young man. I think I’m rusty, maybe I’m already leaking sef. What do you think I can do? 

ME: What do you say is the solution to my gas cylinder again? 

GASS SELLER: We need to take it to the welder and ask him to beat off the rust and seal up the leaking parts, then you can start maintaining it from thereon. 

ME: Good, you should do the same about your life too. Ask God (the welder) to beat off the rust of arrogance and self-pride that has stagnated your spiritual growth; ask him to patch up the leaking areas and strengthen you to consolidate the work from this point on.
