Is God Unfair?

My friend – I’m starting to feel that God is unfair to man.

Me – Why’s that?

My friend – Come to think of it. He made man, right? Man had no choice in the creation.

Me – Yes, that’s right.

My friend – He Put the man in the garden of Eden. Still not by choice.

Me – Yes, that’s correct.

My friend – He planted trees in the garden. And decided that one of them shouldn’t be eaten, if not they’ll die.

Me – Yes, that’s correct

My friend – Isn’t it unfair that the one who made everything perfect had to make something that would make man sin, and then fall. I’m just confused about everything. Why did He have to add that tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil?

Me – Is that your reason for saying God is unfair?

My friend – That’s just one of them. Let’s begin from there.

Me – Alright, first of all. God didn’t create man for man. He created man for Himself. The sole purpose of the creation of man is to be like God, and for God.

My friend – I know that.

Me – But you don’t seem to understand what that means. It means that Man didn’t have to be created or placed where He is by his own choice, but by the will of God.

My friend – Ok, that’s true. So why the tree?

Me – This is where man’s choice comes in. For, even though man was created by God’s own will. God didn’t want man to be His own by His own will. So, He wanted man to make a decision to choose HIM.

My friend – What does that even mean?

Me – It is important that man makes the decision to like for the purpose for which He was created. God wouldn’t force man to go by what He wants. Instead, He gave man the opportunity to choose His Will.
This means that the tree of knowledge of Good and Evil was an opportunity for man to always choose God.

My friend – I still don’t understand. How’s it an opportunity to choose God.

Me – One cannot say he has obeyed if there is no opportunity to disobey. If one has no other option aside from obeying God then, it isn’t really obedience. It is just like one is living like a robot, and can only do one thing.

My friend – Hmmmmmmm

Me – So, the tree served as an extra choice for man. God wants man to make a choice between obeying Him and disobeying Him. And man did that. What man did in the Garden wasn’t just eating the fruit. It was rejecting God.

My friend – Really?

Me – God doesn’t want man to serve him because he has no other option, but because man chose to serve Him. Just as you were saved because you decided to, not because you had no option.

My friend – So, our entire stay on earth is just for us to decide whether we want to choose God or not.

Me – Yes! that’s the summary. Everyday in our lives, we are always faced with the decision of choosing God or not. But ultimately, God wants to have to Himself, those who have decided to choose Him.

My friend – I think this settles my confusion. Thanks.
