Is Jesus Invited?

Welcome to the month of April. This month, we shall be considering the miracles of Jesus from the new testament scriptures. Why is this very important? Well, these miracles are a reminder that God’s power over nature and natural circumstances is still available today as it was well over 2,00 years ago when Jesus physically walked this earth. Beyond that however, the miracles of Jesus and conditions under which they occur always carry a deeper message than the miraculous events themselves. 

So, let’s start with the first known miracle of Jesus- the turning of wine into water at Cana in Galilee. John tells us that there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. He then went further to reveal that “Jesus also was invited to the wedding with his disciples.(John 2:2). 

This is interesting actually, Why was Jesus invited to this wedding?  The invitation of Jesus to this wedding says something about the presence of Jesus at weddings. Jesus comes to a marriage, and gives his blessing there, that we may know that our family life is under his care. More importantly, the invitation of Jesus to this wedding says something about what happens when we invite Jesus into the events of our life.

With the benefit of hindsight today, we may easily say that the invitation of Jesus was a great move considering that when they ran out of wine he came to their rescue. The truth is that when the couple were planning this big day, insufficient wine wasn’t part of their plan. In fact, if you know about the jewish wedding and the big role that wine plays in it, the thought of running out of wine will never cross anyone’s mind. 

This couple actually invited Jesus to their wedding because they know him, because they love him and they want him to be part of their life. Solving their problem was secondary. Unfortunately, that order is changing in our lives today. We share our good life with men and call on Jesus only when we run out of wine. But Jesus wants to be more than just a miracle worker, he wants to be a friend. He wants to share the good times and bad, the moment of glory and season of shame. The question is will you let him? Don’t wait for the wine to finish, bring Jesus onboard now.
