It Was All Part of God’s Plan

‘This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross. ‘

Acts 2:23

Yesterday, we began to look at how Peter tried to explain the Pentecost event to the bystanding crowd. This was crucial, as the people were already making some laughable speculations about what had transpired. In explaining the reality of the event, the first point Peter made was that this event had opened a new chapter in God’s relationship with man. The Holy Spirit would now dwell within us, granting us access to God’s will.

Peter went further to make another point about Jesus, the man who made this new relationship possible. He made a profound declaration regarding the death of Jesus Christ by saying that Jesus’ crucifixion was not a random occurrence or the result of human scheming, but rather, it was part of God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge.

The death of Jesus on the cross, though initially perceived as a tragedy, ultimately became the means of salvation for all who would believe. It was through the sacrificial death of Christ that God accomplished His eternal purpose of reconciling sinful humanity to Himself. What appeared to be a moment of defeat was, in reality, the greatest victory in human history. This is indeed a beautiful story of God’s sovereignty. 

So, what does this mean for us? As believers, we can take comfort and find assurance in the knowledge that God is sovereign over all things, including the events of our lives. Even in the midst of trials, challenges, and adversity, we can trust that God is at work, orchestrating His divine plan for our good and His glory.

The assurance of God’s sovereignty enables us to face life’s uncertainties with faith and confidence. We can rest in the knowledge that nothing happens outside of God’s control, and He is able to turn even the most difficult circumstances into opportunities for blessing and transformation.

Just as God used the death of Jesus to bring about salvation, He can also use our trials and sufferings to accomplish His purposes in our lives. As we surrender to His will and trust in His unfailing love, we can be confident that He will work all things together for our ultimate good.
