Knowing the Will of God  1

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is, his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2

Knowing the will of God is not a mystery reserved for a special few. Scripture makes it clear that discernment is a product of transformation. Paul shows us that before we can recognize God’s will, something must first be resisted – the pattern of this world.

The world operates by powerful systems of thinking that shape desires, ambitions, and decisions. According to 1 John 2:16, these patterns are driven by the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. These influences are subtle, persuasive, and constantly reinforced through culture, media, and social expectations. When our minds are patterned after these systems, our spiritual sensitivity becomes dull.

This is why many believers struggle to discern God’s will. It is not because God is silent, but because their minds are crowded with competing voices. Conformity weakens conviction. It blurs spiritual clarity. When the mind is trained to think like the world, it loses the strength required to obey God, even when his will is clear.

This year, knowing the will of God begins with intentional separation in thinking. You may live in the world, but you are not called to borrow its values, fears, or definitions of success. Refusing conformity is an active decision. It requires awareness, discipline, and courage. Every time you choose truth over trend and obedience over popularity, your spiritual discernment grows sharper.

As you walk through this year of opportunity, ask yourself what patterns of thinking need to change. God’s will is not hidden; it is revealed to transformed minds. When you stop conforming, you start discerning.

Prayer
Father, I ask for grace to resist the patterns of this world. Help me to recognize thoughts, desires, and influences that pull me away from your truth. Strengthen my convictions and align my thinking with your word. As I choose not to conform, help me walk in clarity and obedience to your will. Let my life reflect your purpose, in Jesus’ name.
