Learning to Pray Like David

“Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.” — Psalm 51:10-12

David’s prayer in Psalm 51 is one of the most heartfelt and honest prayers in Scripture. Born out of his deep remorse after being confronted about his sin with Bathsheba, it reflects a heart that is broken but also deeply dependent on God. David doesn’t try to hide his failures or justify his actions. Instead, he humbly comes before God, seeking forgiveness and restoration.
