For the Israelites, the Tabernacle served as exactly that—a portable sanctuary that symbolized God dwelling among His people. Every detail of its design pointed to a holy, purposeful place, reflecting God’s desire to be near those He loves. Even today, we can find profound lessons on worship and communion with God from the way the Tabernacle was constructed and used.
One striking feature is that the Tabernacle was set apart from the ordinary. It was a special, sacred space where the Israelites would come to offer sacrifices, praise, and thanksgiving. This teaches us that worship isn’t meant to be an afterthought or squeezed into the margins of our busy lives. Instead, it’s an intentional act of drawing near to God, giving Him our undivided attention. In a culture full of distractions, creating our own “sanctuary moments”—quiet times, prayer corners, or even mindful walks—can help us focus our hearts on the Lord.
Moreover, the Tabernacle was a place of encounter, where the Israelites would bring their prayers and sacrifices to the Lord. It reminds us that worship is more than just singing songs; it’s an ongoing, relational exchange. God longs for us to come to Him honestly—carrying our burdens, joys, confessions, and praises. In these honest moments, we discover that He is not a distant deity but a loving Father who delights in being close to His children.
Another powerful reminder from the Tabernacle is that God meets us where we are. Just as the Israelites carried the Tabernacle through the wilderness, we carry God’s presence within us through the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19). We don’t need a physical tent to encounter Him; instead, He dwells in our hearts. Still, the principle remains the same: our relationship with God is meant to be ongoing, not confined to a single location or once-a-week service.

Lord, thank you for your desire to dwell among us. Help me to cultivate a heart of true worship, setting aside time and space to be fully present with you. Teach me to bring all of my joys, struggles, and hopes before you, trusting that you care deeply for me.
