David’s heartfelt prayer in this psalm reminds us of our mortality and challenges us to make the most of the time God has given us. When he asked God to show him the brevity of life, he wasn’t looking for fear but perspective—a reminder to prioritize what truly matters.
Sometimes, we live as though we have unlimited time, procrastinating on the things that matter most: forgiving someone, pursuing the purpose God placed in our hearts, or simply telling loved ones how much they mean to us. But the truth is, none of us know how much time we have left. Only God holds the knowledge of our appointed days. This realization should inspire us to live intentionally, to love deeply, and to walk closely with Him every single day.
Think about this: If today were your last, would you be satisfied with how you lived? Would you leave behind a legacy of love, faith, and good works? Living with eternity in mind means making choices that honor God and reflect His love. It’s about valuing relationships over material gain, obedience over convenience, and eternal rewards over temporary pleasures.
Friend, life is short, but it’s a gift. Make it count. Focus on the things that have lasting value. Be intentional about loving others, serving God, and walking in His purpose. Whether you have a day, a year, or decades left, let each moment reflect the beauty of a life lived for Him.
PRAYER
Lord, thank you for the precious gift of life and the reminder of how fleeting it is. Help me to live each day with eternity in mind. Teach me to make wise choices, to love others deeply, and to stay obedient to your will. I ask for the grace to use my time on earth for your glory and to bear fruit that lasts.
