8 Then Manoah prayed to the Lord, and said, “O my Lord, please let the Man of God whom You sent come to us again and teach us what we shall do for the child who will be born.”
Judges 13:8 (NKJV)
For the last two days we have seen through Judges chapter 13 we see the interesting story of how the angel of the Lord visited the wife of a man named Manoah, a Danite. He informed her about a child she was going to give birth to, making her conceive even in her state of barrenness. This child was going to be a Nazirite, and yesterday we concluded that just like this child, God was us to live a life of consecration. God is always ready to use people of consecration.
However, after the angel left, something interesting happened. The woman went to her husband and explained everything to Him on what the angel of the Lord had said. Manoah seemed to be a very strong man of faith. He totally believed all that his wife had said, and after he examined her encounter, he realised that something was missing. His wife failed to ask for something important. So, he took that inquiry before God in prayer
Manoah prayed to God to send the angel again so that he might teach them what to do for the child they would be having. This is a very important request, as it shows two things. First, it shows Manoah’s faith and acceptance that God would do what He says He would do. Secondly, it shows that Manoah was interested in doing the will of God concerning this child, since the child is given from the Lord for a specific purpose, he wanted to ensure that he and his wife did all they could to achieve this purpose.
Manoah’s prayer shows to us the importance of inquiring of God to teach us how we would achieve His purposes in our lives. The Psalmist says in Psalms 86:11, “Teach me Your way, O Lord; I will walk in Your truth; Unite my heart to fear Your name.” This is a very instructive prayer that we must continually pray, so that the Lord teaches us the way to guide the path of our lives, the path of our children, the path of those who are submitted to us. We cannot afford to live out of God’s will or lead people out of God’s will. Therefore, we must learn to pray for help and guidance from God.
PRAYER
Psalms 32:8 says “”I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.” Therefore, Lord I come to you today that you may instruct me, teach me and guide me in all that I do.
