Love in Action

“Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”
—1 John 3:18 (NIV)

It’s easy to say, “I love you,” but genuine love goes beyond words. In 1 John 3:18, we are reminded that true love is demonstrated through actions and grounded in truth. Love that only exists in words may sound good, but it lacks depth and impact. Genuine love steps in to meet needs, offer comfort, and show kindness in tangible ways. Think about how Jesus expressed love during His time on earth. He didn’t just tell people He cared for them—He healed the sick, fed the hungry, and even washed His disciples’ feet. His love was active, humble, and deeply compassionate. Following His example, we are called to love in ways that go beyond mere sentiment. Who in your life needs to see love in action today? Perhaps a neighbor struggling with loneliness, a friend in need of encouragement, or a family member longing for understanding.

Loving in action doesn’t require grand gestures; even small acts can make a big difference. It could be as simple as sending a thoughtful message, helping someone with a task, or offering a listening ear. These actions, when rooted in truth, demonstrate a love that is genuine and Christlike. Reflect on your daily interactions—are they marked by love that moves beyond words?
