Love is Patient

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.”
—1 Corinthians 13:4 (NIV)

Patience is one of the first attributes listed in Paul’s beautiful description of love in 1 Corinthians 13. But let’s be honest—being patient doesn’t always come easily. Whether it’s waiting in traffic, handling a difficult coworker, or dealing with a loved one’s flaws, patience is often tested in our everyday lives. Yet, God calls us to embody this hallmark of love, reflecting His patience toward us.

Think about how patient God has been with you. He doesn’t give up on us when we falter or when we take longer than we should to grow. Instead, He waits lovingly, guiding us with grace. When we allow this truth to sink in, it becomes easier to extend patience to others. Is there someone in your life who tries your patience? Remember, loving them means being willing to endure frustrations without giving up or lashing out.

Patience requires humility and self-control. It means setting aside our desire for instant results or perfection and choosing to love people in their process. It’s not about ignoring issues but about addressing them with grace. This doesn’t just benefit the other person—it transforms us. Each time we practice patience, we grow in character and reflect God’s love more fully. How can you intentionally grow in patience today? Lord, thank you for your patience with me, even when I fall short. Help me to reflect your love by growing in patience with others. Teach me to wait with grace, to respond with kindness, and to love unconditionally. Let your Spirit work in me, shaping my heart to look more like yours. Amen.
