“Then Queen Esther answered, ‘If I have found favor in your sight, O king, and if it please the king, let my life be granted me for my wish, and my people for my request.'” — Esther 7:3 (ESV)
There is a moment in every rescue where someone has to say the thing.
Esther had been in the palace for years. She had kept her secret through a season of preparation, through the politics of the court, through her elevation to queen. She had kept it through the issuance of Haman’s decree. She had kept it through the first banquet. And now, at the second banquet, with the king leaning toward her, asking again what she wanted, up to half the kingdom, she finally said it.
Notice the construction of her request. She does not open with the political problem. She opens with her own life: let my life be granted me for my wish. She is making it personal before she makes it national. She is bringing the king into a human story before she reveals the scale of the threat. If I have found favour in your sight is the relational anchor. My life is the personal stake. Then: and my people for my request.
This is the moment the entire story has been building toward. Not just the rescue of the Jewish people but the revelation of who Esther is. The secret that Mordecai had told her to keep for years was the very secret whose disclosure, at this moment, made the rescue possible. The hidden identity was not a permanent concealment. It was a delayed disclosure, kept until the moment when its revelation would carry maximum weight.
There are truths about yourself, gifts you carry, callings you have been given, that are not yet public. The timing of their disclosure is not yours to force. Esther did not reveal her identity when she first arrived at the palace. She did not reveal it when she became queen. She revealed it at the second banquet, in the presence of the one person who had the power to act on it, when the situation had created the urgency that her disclosure needed in order to be taken seriously.
Today, consider what you have been carrying in silence that God may be preparing to bring forward at the right moment. Not everything that is not yet public is meant to remain hidden. Some things are kept until the season makes their disclosure the turning point of the story.
Father, the things I carry in silence I release to your timing. What you have sealed, you will reveal. What you have hidden, you will bring forward at the moment it changes everything. I trust the when. In Jesus’ name, amen.
