Pathways to Spiritual Growth

When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it.

Genesis 28:16 NIV

A brother was seeking the face of God for divine anointing and a better relationship with God, so he decided to embark on a 3-day marathon fast. On the second day, God spoke to him through Jeremiah 33:3 “Call to Me, and I will answer and show you great and unsearchable things you do not know”

On the third day, he was expecting to hear God, perhaps in some audible voice, or see an angel walk into his room to anoint his tongue with coals of fire. But none of it happened. However, he felt a subtle compelling force leading him to take a stroll outside. For a moment, he thought he might encounter an angelic visitation, but instead, he saw a little child playing with sand and singing:

“Read your Bible pray every day,

pray every day, pray every day,

Read your Bible pray every day,

If you want to grow!”

After waiting for a long time without any supernatural manifestation, he turned back angrily. Again the Lord spoke to him through Genesis 28:16: “When Jacob woke up, he thought, “Surely the LORD is in this place, and I was unaware of it.” At this point, he started getting worried if he missed something. He suddenly became calm, and in that calmness, it dawned on him that God had spoken through that child. The answer to his three-day marathon was contained in the words of that song, ‘Read your Bible and pray every day, if you want to grow’

It turns out that the secret to great spiritual power is not in deep things but in something as simple as reading your bible and praying consistently. The only problem is that it’s not as simple as it sounds.

Let’s do a simple test: when last did you actually read your Bible and pray? Before that time, when was the last time? You see! Real power doesn’t come by going to a mountain once a year only to live carnally for the remaining part of the year. No, it comes from consistently being with the Lord, listening to Him and doing His will. When we do this, we create the atmosphere for God to speak to us through anything: your boss, a billboard advert, and even roadside gossip. You cannot put Him in a box; God works in mysterious ways.

So, where is your bible again? Pick it up, read it, and get on your knees to speak with your heavenly Father now. He’s willing, able, and ready to speak with you.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank you for reminding me that the secret to great spiritual power is a simple as continuous fellow with you through the word and prayer. Please help me to keep pace with these things in Jesus name.
