Renouncing Ownership and Pursuing God’s Ways

“If you don’t go all the way with me, through thick and thin, you don’t deserve me. If your first concern is to look after yourself, you’ll never find yourself. But if you forget about yourself and look to me, you’ll find both yourself and me.” – Matthew 10:38-39 (MSG)

The Lordship of Jesus is at the heart of Christianity. To truly follow Christ is to give up ownership of your life and everything in it. This is the kind of believer that God will bless abundantly-one who has surrendered all to Him and remains steadfast in serving Him, regardless of circumstances.

When you reach a place in your walk with God where your judgment of His goodness is no longer based on what He does or does not do for you, you’ve entered into a deep and powerful relationship with Him. Your love for God should not be contingent on what you receive from Him but should be a response to His inherent goodness. Let it be settled in your heart that God is good, no matter what challenges you may face.

Whenever the enemy tries to draw your attention to your life’s issues, needs, or lack, remind him that your life and every aspect of it are in God’s hands. The devil may try to distract you, but your focus should remain on God, knowing that He is in control of every situation.

Matthew 10:38-39 (MSG) speaks to this principle: “If you don’t go all the way with me, through thick and thin, you don’t deserve me. If your first concern is to look after yourself, you’ll never find yourself. But if you forget about yourself and look to me, you’ll find both yourself and me.” The true Christian life is not about securing your own comfort but about surrendering to God’s will and focusing on His purposes.

You will find the true meaning of your life when you are willing to lose it for the sake of the Kingdom. Your life is not defined by material things, but by your relationship with God. When you renounce ownership of your life to God, you take a step toward understanding the deep and meaningful ways of God.

There is a difference between knowing God’s acts and knowing His ways. The Israelites knew God’s acts, like a salaried employee who performs tasks but doesn’t partake in the decision-making process. But Moses knew God’s ways, as a director in the company who understands the heart and mind behind the decisions being made. God showed Moses His ways, and that’s the level of intimacy He desires with us. We should strive to know His ways, not just His acts, and align ourselves with His will.

Prayer:
Father, I surrender ownership of my life to you today. I renounce my own will and submit to your Lordship. Help me to walk in your ways and not just seek your acts. Teach me to follow you with all my heart, regardless of my circumstances. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
