Serving Alongside Our High Priest

The Lord said to Moses, “Bring the tribe of Levi and present them to Aaron the priest to assist him.”.

Numbers 3:5-6

Let’s continue our priesthood conversation again today. Let me tell you something else about the old covenant. In the Old Testament, Aaron served as the high priest, representing the people before God and offering sacrifices for their sins. In the new covenant, Jesus Christ serves as our ultimate High Priest, who offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for our sins, reconciling us to God (Hebrews 7:26-27).

However, just as the Levites were called to assist Aaron in his priestly duties, so too are we called to serve alongside our high priest, Jesus Christ, in the work of reconciliation and ministry. While Jesus is our ultimate High Priest, He has also appointed pastors and leaders within the local church to carry out His ministry on earth.

Our pastors, as spiritual leaders and shepherds of the flock, bear a resemblance to Aaron in their role as mediators between God and His people. They lead the congregation in worship, teach and preach the Word of God, and provide spiritual guidance and care.

As members of the body of Christ, we have a responsibility to assist and support our pastors in their priestly work. This includes serving in various capacities within the local church, such as teaching, leading worship, serving in outreach ministries, and providing practical assistance as needed.

Just as the Levites were entrusted with caring for the furnishings of the tabernacle and fulfilling the obligations of the Israelites, so too are we called to fulfill our responsibilities within the body of Christ, ensuring that the work of ministry is carried out effectively and efficiently.

Now let’s talk about your role in your local church! Are you doing anything in your local assembly to lighten the burden of the Gospel? If not, then you should prayerfully look for something to do. If you are already doing something, how wholeheartedly are you doing it? Let it never be said, that you put more attention into your business than into serving the Lord

It’s time to embrace our role as fellow laborers with Christ and His appointed shepherds. Let us offer ourselves willingly and wholeheartedly in service to God and His people, knowing that our efforts contribute to the advancement of His kingdom and the fulfillment of His purposes on earth.
