The last Sunday of 2020 was a very interesting one in my church, plenty of food to eat, drinks everywhere and while we were eating, the barbeque man we had invited started setting up his gadget.
While he was setting up, the seasoned meat was right there in one corner. Flies were trying to make their way into the meat but the barbeque guy won’t let them, they kept disturbing and distracting him as he had to constantly chase them while he cleans his tools; it must have been stressful for him.
However, everything changed the moment he was done cleaning and the fire was in place. He arranged the seasoned meat on the fire and guess what, all the flies were nowhere to be found. Guess what is more interesting? The moment the barbequed meat was done and was left for a while, the flies were suddenly making their way back, this time around to disturb the people trying to eat. Just imagine!
Truth is when a Christian decides to play cool, calm, and collected with the flesh and the devil, you end up struggling with flies, getting distracted and feeling defeated all the time, falling into condemnation, and getting knocked down by every little challenge that the devil throws at you. That’s not a way for a child of God to live, you need to be on fire! Galatians 5:16 says “Live by the spirit and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh” the principle is automatic, no need for Greek and Hebrew translation; just be on fire and all the works of the enemy will run.
So, how can you be on fire? Simple, devote time consistently to the word of God and prayer. While this is not a formula, just make up your mind that from tomorrow you will wake up at 5 am or 6 am everyday depending on your routine, and pray for just 10 minutes and read just one chapter of the bible, never mind whether you receive a big revelation from it or not, just keep doing it everyday till the end of February and reassess your life. If nothing has changed you can stop, otherwise, make it part of your life.
In addition, stay close to the assembly of brethren for the bible says in Proverbs 27:17 that “Iron sharpeneth iron…” and more importantly, devote yourself to the work of the Lord. When you’re busy for God, there’s no room for meditating on the dictates of the flesh.
