Sharing is Caring

All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need.’

Acts 2:44-45

We are now in Acts 2:42-47. Here, the believers’ community is taking shape, and their lifestyle is characterised by devotion. They were not merely a collection of individuals but a fellowship bound by a common purpose and devotion to God’s Word. One striking aspect of their unity was their commitment to sharing with one another.

Sharing is more than just giving. It requires a willingness to sacrifice our own comfort or abundance by parting with what we have. The early Christians understood this principle deeply, and they lived it out in their daily lives.

Imagine the scene: believers coming together to share meals, possessions, and resources, meeting each other’s needs with joyful hearts.. They didn’t hoard their blessings but freely distributed them among the community, ensuring that no one lacked anything.

This spirit of sacrificial giving is something we can learn from and emulate in our own lives. Often, we may find ourselves hesitant to share, especially when we feel that what we have is insufficient. However, it is precisely in those moments of scarcity that our willingness to share becomes most significant.

Consider the example of the young boy who offered his five loaves and two fish to Jesus, despite the overwhelming need to feed the multitude. Though his offering seemed meagre in comparison to the need, Jesus multiplied it and fed thousands.

When we adopt the mindset of sharing, we open ourselves up to God’s miraculous provision and blessing. We recognize that our resources, no matter how limited they may seem, can be used by God to meet the needs of others in remarkable ways.

As we reflect on the example of the early church, may we be inspired to embrace the spirit of sacrificial giving in our own lives. Let us not hold back from sharing what we have, but let us give generously and cheerfully, trusting that God will multiply our offerings and use them for His glory.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for the example of the early church, who demonstrated the power of sacrificial giving and sharing. Help us to cultivate hearts of generosity and selflessness, willing to share what we have with others, even in times of scarcity. Teach us to trust in Your provision and to be channels of Your blessings to those in need. May our acts of sharing bring glory to Your name and further Your kingdom on earth. In Jesus’ name.
