One of the most deceptive doctrines the devil spreads is the belief that every man has a price. The enemy tries to bargain with us, offering us the world in exchange for our obedience to God. We see this clearly in the life of Moses. When the devil offered him the throne of Egypt, Moses rejected it, choosing instead to endure the insult and rejection of being with God’s people (Hebrews 11:24-26). Moses understood that nothing in this world could compare to the eternal rewards of following God’s will.
What is the devil bargaining for in your life today? What is he tempting you with to distract you from God’s purpose for you? This is where the Apostle Paul’s words resonate: “I count everything as loss compared to the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord” (Philippians 3:7). Paul knew the value of surrendering everything to gain Christ.
In ministry, many young ministers get caught up in their natural abilities and skills. They may succeed in building their ministries, growing mentally and professionally, but they find themselves spiritually empty. Ministry is not about personal capability but about the anointing of the Holy Spirit. If we rely solely on our strength and intellect, we risk losing the spiritual power that truly transforms lives.
As you reflect on your own life, consider: What demand is Jesus making of you today that seems too difficult to bear? Perhaps it’s forgiving someone, reconciling with a loved one, or laying down an ambition. Write these things down and ask the Holy Spirit to help you surrender them fully to God.
Genesis 6:3 reminds us that “the Spirit of God will not strive with man forever.” God’s Spirit will continue to work with us as we surrender our will to His, but there comes a time when the Holy Spirit will stop striving if we resist His prompting. For example, God may be calling someone to reconcile with a spouse, but they insist on holding on to bitterness. Eventually, the Spirit will withdraw from that area until the will is fully surrendered.
Prayer:
Father, I surrender my will to you today. I recognize that your plans for me are far better than anything this world can offer. Help me to be sensitive to the leading of your Holy Spirit, and to obey even when it feels difficult. I ask you to reveal areas of my life where I am resisting your will, and give me the strength to submit completely to you. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
