The Battle Belongs to the Lord

“When the three hundred trumpets sounded, the Lord caused the men throughout the camp to turn on each other with their swords. The army fled to Beth Shittah toward Zererah as far as the border of Abel Meholah near Tabbath.” – Judges 7:22 (NIV)

When Gideon and his three hundred men stood against the mighty Midianite army, they didn’t lift a sword in the first phase of the battle. Instead, they simply obeyed God’s unusual instructions: blow the trumpets, break the jars, and shout. At that moment, the Lord Himself caused confusion in the enemy’s camp, and the Midianites turned their swords against one another. By the time Israel advanced, their enemy was already defeated.

This powerful scene shows us that the greatest victories are not won by our strength, but by the power of God. Just as the Midianites fought and destroyed themselves, Jesus has already defeated our greatest enemies-sin, death, and the powers of darkness-through His death and resurrection. Our role is not to fight for victory but to stand in victory.

Romans 8:37 declares, “In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” To be “more than a conqueror” means you get to enjoy the spoils of a battle you did not fight. Jesus fought the ultimate battle at the cross and won. Now we share in His victory-peace, joy, salvation, healing, and eternal life-not because of what we’ve done, but because of what He has done for us.

You may be facing battles today-emotional struggles, financial pressures, or spiritual warfare-but remember this: you don’t have to fight in your own strength. Sometimes, God works in ways you cannot see, causing the enemy’s plans to fall apart before you even take a step. Your role is to trust Him, obey His voice, and collect the spoils of His victory.

Prayer:

Lord, I thank you that the battle belongs to you. Thank you for defeating sin, death, and every power of the enemy through Jesus. Help me to rest in the victory you’ve already won and to walk in faith, knowing I am more than a conqueror through your love. I choose today to trust your power, your wisdom, and your timing. Amen.
