No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us

Romans 8:57

I was watching a movie with my wife a few years back, a classic suspense film. The problem with these kinds of movies is that they always put you on the edge of your seat. Just when you think it’s over for the main character, another surprise event brings them back to life.

However, on this occasion, only my wife was living in suspense and despair about what would happen next. If you were in the room, you would have thought I had no feelings, having remained so calm throughout such a movie. But the truth is, I had seen the movie a week before and wasn’t expecting anything to change from what I had already seen. I saw the struggles, but I also saw the main character’s victory in the end. So, while my wife was getting worked up about what was going on, I was calm because I knew victory was assured.

Just like a re-watched movie, as believers, we must see our victory over all things through the prism of Christ. We are not working towards victory; we are already victorious, even in the face of ongoing battles. Paul says, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written, ‘For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.’ [j] No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us” (Romans 8:35-37).

Don’t let what you are going through right now push you away from God. Remember, this too shall pass. It doesn’t matter what you are going through, resist the temptation of making a permanent decision in the midst of it; don’t forget it is only temporary. More importantly, keep your eyes on Jesus. He is the source of your victory. We have already won the victory for you, and the outcome will not change. Your victory is as certain as a repeat football match. The match has been played, the victor has been declared, and nothing can change that. The replay is just for the people who haven’t seen it so that they can learn in detail how the victory was won.

In the same way, your victory is won, and this replay incident that you are going through is just for others to see the manifestation of God’s power in saving you. We will rejoice in your victory soon.
