The Cross Reveals Love

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

If love ever needed a definition, the cross provides it. God did not leave love as an abstract idea or a theological concept. He demonstrated it. He put love on display in the most public, painful, and unmistakable way. While we were still sinners, not improved, not repentant, not deserving, Christ died for us.

The cross reveals the depth of God’s love by showing its timing. He did not wait for us to change. He did not love us after we got better. He loved us at our worst. This kind of love removes all grounds for boasting and all fear of rejection. If God loved us then, He will not stop loving us now.

The cross also reveals the cost of love. Love is not cheap. It is sacrificial. It bleeds. It gives itself away for the good of another. At the cross, God showed that love is willing to suffer loss so that others might gain life. This was not forced love. It was chosen love. Jesus laid down His life willingly because love compelled Him.

Many believers struggle with the idea that God truly loves them. They measure His love by circumstances, emotions, or performance. But Scripture anchors God’s love in history. The cross stands as a permanent testimony. When doubts rise, we do not look inward for reassurance. We look to the cross. It settles the question forever.

The cross also reshapes how we love others. If God loved us when we were undeserving, then love can no longer be conditional or selective. It calls us to extend grace beyond comfort and forgiveness beyond convenience. We love not because people earn it, but because love has already been given to us.

Take time to reflect on the cross. Do not rush past it. Let it speak again. Let it silence accusation, fear, and insecurity. The cross reveals this truth clearly, you are deeply, sacrificially, and unchangeably loved.

Prayer
Father, thank you for demonstrating your love through the cross of Christ. When doubts rise in my heart, help me to look again at what Jesus has done for me. Teach me to live from the assurance of your love and to reflect that same sacrificial love to others. Amen.
