The Kindness That Draws Us

Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?

God’s love does not force its way into the human heart; instead it draws, it invites and it patiently woos us through kindness. The word of God tells us that it is not fear, pressure, or threat that leads us to repentance, but the goodness of God. His love reaches us through mercy that softens the heart and opens the eyes.

Many people assume that change happens only through strong rebuke or harsh consequences. But God often works differently. He overwhelms resistance with kindness. He meets stubborn hearts with patience. He allows His goodness to expose the emptiness of life apart from Him. When we encounter God’s kindness, we begin to see ourselves honestly, not crushed by shame, but drawn by grace.

This kindness is not weakness. It is strength under control. God’s patience does not mean indifference to sin. It means He gives space for repentance. He waits. He bears with us. He does not rush transformation, but walks with us through it. His love is steady enough to endure our slowness and gentle enough to lead us forward.

When we truly understand God’s kindness, repentance becomes a response of trust, not fear. We turn toward Him because we believe His heart is good. We lay down sin not because we are terrified of punishment, but because we have tasted something better. His kindness changes our desires, not just our behavior.

This dimension of God’s love also shapes how we relate to others. If God draws us with kindness, then our words, actions, and witness should reflect that same grace. Harshness may silence people, but kindness opens hearts. Love that reflects God’s goodness creates room for transformation.

This morning, pause and reflect on the kindness of God in your own journey. Think of the patience He has shown you, the mercy that met you repeatedly, the grace that kept inviting you back. Let that kindness draw you closer again.

Father, thank you for your kindness that has patiently drawn my heart toward you. Help me to respond to your goodness with repentance and trust. Teach me to reflect your kindness in how I treat others, so that your love may draw many hearts through me. Amen.
