The Long Way is the Sure Way

 “So God led the people around by way of the wilderness of the Red Sea. And the children of Israel went up in orderly ranks out of the land of Egypt.” – Exodus 13:18 (NKJV)

When God delivered Israel from Egypt, He didn’t take them on the shortest route to the Promised Land. Instead, He led them the long way through the wilderness. To the people, it may have felt unnecessary and confusing, but God had a reason-He was protecting them from battles they weren’t ready to fight. What looked like delay was actually divine protection and preparation. The long way was the sure way.

Isn’t that how God works in our lives too? We often want shortcuts-quick answers, instant success, immediate breakthroughs. But God, in His wisdom, sometimes takes us the longer route. It’s not because He’s forgotten us, but because He sees dangers we cannot see and knows the growth we still need. The wilderness seasons shape us, strengthen us, and prepare us for what lies ahead.

Think about your own journey. Maybe you’ve wondered why a dream is taking so long, or why God hasn’t answered a prayer the way you expected. Could it be that the detour is actually His mercy? Like Israel, you may feel like you’re circling the wilderness, but God is ordering your steps with perfect care. The long way is not wasted time; it’s a training ground.

So the next time you feel delayed, remember: God’s route is always the safest and surest. The long way builds faith, deepens trust, and keeps you from battles that would have crushed you too soon. Trust His leading, even when it feels slow. He knows the road, and He knows what’s best for you.

Father, thank You that even when my journey feels long, You are leading me with wisdom and love. Help me to trust Your timing and direction, knowing that every step is part of Your protection and preparation. Teach me patience in the process and confidence that Your way is always the sure way.
