The Lord has delivered your enemies into your hand

Then he said to them, “Follow me, for the Lord has delivered your enemies the Moabites into your hand.”

Judges 3:28a (NKJV)

After Othniel, Caleb’s brother, served as a judge over Israel for forty years, he died. This time again, the people of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord. So the Lord strengthened Eglon, the king of Moab against Israel. He gathered to himself the people of Ammon and Amalek and defeated Israel, and took possession of the City of Palms. So the children of Israel served Eglon king of Moab eighteen years.

After eighteen years, Israel God tired and cried to the Lord. It always seems as though God is waiting for them to call to Him. And yes, He is. He wants us to realise that He is the one One that can help us, even from things that are the consequences of our very own actions. This time, God raised Ehud the son of Gera, the Benjamite, a left-handed man.

Ehud believed that God was ready to deliver the people of Israel, but no one had the courage that he had. So what did Ehud do? He crafted a dagger and hid it when going to deliver tribute to Eglon. Just imagine how much courage that took. He didn’t mind being discovered, but trusted that God was going to deliver the King into his hands. He knew the Israelites were not courageous to do what he wanted to do. But, his actions were to stir up faith in the people. Helping them see that these Moabites are only flesh and blood and can be defeated by the help of God. So, he went after the King and killed him. He came out, blew the trumpet and led Israel to victory. 

Ehud’s actions show to us that even though God has given the victory, we would see nothing, if we do not stand up and effect the victory that we have received. We must look that mountain in the face today, we must stand up and confront that pattern in our families, we must stand up and confront those demons, principalities and powers, that you have the victory. If no action is taken, you will continue to live a life of servitude under every Eglon, even though the Scriptures promise victory.

However, one very important thing is that you cannot effect victory when you live in sin. This is because you are not standing in the place of a victor, but in the place of death. The Devil is not scared of a believer that lives in sin. He knows that he is powerless. This is why true repentance must take place, and then victory can be effected. 

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, thank you for the victory you have given me through your perfect sacrifice. Have mercy on me in any way the Devil has the right to accuse me before your throne. I confront every activity of the enemy in my life, in my family, and I effect God’s victory all round. You mountain shall become plain now!
