“Forasmuch as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreams, and shewing of hard sentences, and dissolving of doubts, were found in the same Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar: now let Daniel be called, and he will shew the interpretation.” – Daniel 5:12 (KJV)
Have you ever wondered what sets some people apart, even in a crowd of highly skilled individuals? It’s more than talent, discipline, or education—it’s something deeper, something divine. Daniel had what the Bible calls an “excellent spirit.” It wasn’t just that he was knowledgeable or wise; it was the Spirit of God working through him that gave him a distinction no one else could replicate. This excellent spirit placed him before kings and gave him answers no one else had.
An excellent spirit doesn’t eliminate the need for hard work or skill. Look at Joseph and Daniel—they were not only Spirit-filled but also knowledgeable, wise, and prepared for their roles. However, the excellent spirit was their divine advantage. It’s what caused Joseph to rise in Potiphar’s house and Daniel to become a trusted advisor in Babylon. This Spirit sets you apart in ways that no resume, degree, or AI-generated solution ever could.
In today’s world, where technology levels the playing field and rare skills are just a click away, what will make you stand out? Friend, it’s the Spirit of God upon you. An excellent spirit is what will give you divine wisdom, insight, and favor. It’s what will enable you to excel in a pool of talented individuals and give you opportunities beyond what your qualifications suggest.
God is willing to pour this excellent spirit on anyone who places Him above all else. If you seek Him diligently and allow Him to guide your life, He will fill you with His Spirit, setting you apart and equipping you to do extraordinary things.
Lord, I thank you for the reminder that it’s not by my strength or skill alone but by your Spirit that I can truly excel. I ask for your excellent Spirit to rest upon me, giving me wisdom, understanding, and favor in all I do. Help me to seek you above all else and to trust in your guidance. Equip me to stand out for your glory and to fulfill the purpose you have for my life.
