The Lord said, “Throw it on the ground. Moses threw it on the ground and it became a snake, and he ran from it.
Exodus 4:3
Yesterday, we discussed how things can be more than they appear, and mentioned that in our case as children of God, one of the reasons is that God’s hand sometimes rests upon ordinary things. When he opens our eyes to their full potential, the extraordinary emerges.
However, in order for this manifestation to come alive, there is a process. In Exodus 4:2, God asked Moses, “What is that in your hand?” “A staff,” he replied. Look at the next demand God made of him in verse 3, the Lord said, “Throw it on the ground.”
Like we saw in yesterday’s exhortation, the staff symbolises Moses’s natural ability, as it was with it that he could give directives to Jethro’s flock. Though this staff could command Jethro’s sheep, it needed God’s power to command Israel’s deliverance. However, for God’s power to rest upon it, Moses had to lay it down first.
You, too, hold a staff in your hand! It might be your oratory, your organisation, your leadership, or your planning skills. No doubt, it has brought you victories before. But if it’s to confront Pharaoh and lead your generation to a grand deliverance, God’s power must first rest upon it. Like Moses, you must also be willing to surrender this staff.
God is planning an end-time revival. A move of God that transcends church gatherings into every phase of life. This move will require the penetration of God-given abilities, but those abilities must first be laid down at the Master’s feet. If you plan to be a part of this move, the time to lay down your staff is now.
Heavenly Father, thank you for the abilities you have given to me. Please, help me to lay them down at your feet so that your spirit can breathe upon them for your end-time revival mandate
