Wait For Your Healing

And after the whole nation had been circumcised, they remained where they were in camp until they were healed.

— Joshua 5:8

Imagine the scene: a nation on the brink of war, encamped in enemy territory, yet completely vulnerable and incapacitated. This was Israel’s reality after their circumcision at Gibeath Haaraloth. Joshua, following God’s command, had his entire fighting force undergo circumcision. This act, necessary for their covenant relationship with God, left them weak and unable to defend themselves. They had to wait until they were healed before continuing on their mission.

This period of waiting was crucial. It brought to mind the story in Genesis 34:24-25, where the men of Shechem, weakened by circumcision, were slaughtered by Simeon and Levi. The Israelites could have faced a similar fate, but God’s protection was over them. This illustrates the importance of waiting for healing after a period of spiritual or physical circumcision. When God circumcises our hearts, cutting away unhealthy attachments or dependencies, it often involves a painful process of separation and loss. This pain is temporary, but the healing that follows is essential for our strength and growth.

God’s timing is perfect. The waiting period after circumcision allowed the Israelites to regain their strength and fully rely on God’s protection. In our lives, when God cuts away things that hinder our spiritual growth, we too must wait for healing. This time of waiting is not passive; it is a time of trust, reflection, and dependence on God. It is during these periods that God strengthens us, preparing us for the battles ahead.

The healing process is necessary to transform our weaknesses into strengths. When God removes our reliance on earthly securities or material wealth, it can feel like a painful loss. But as we wait and heal, we find our true security and strength in God alone. This process teaches us to trust in God’s provision and timing, knowing that He is making us stronger for the journey ahead.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, Thank you for the times of circumcision in my life, even when they are painful. Help me to trust in your timing and to wait patiently for the healing that follows. Strengthen me during these periods of vulnerability and teach me to rely fully on your provision and protection. May I find my true security and strength in you alone. As I wait for healing, fill me with your peace and prepare me for the battles ahead. Thank you for your faithfulness and for making me stronger through every trial.
