What Fruit Are You Producing?

“Therefore, you will fully know them by their fruits.” – Matthew 7:20 (AMPC)

Have you ever been surprised by someone’s true nature after trusting them? It’s a tough pill to swallow when someone we believed in turns out to be different from what they appeared to be. Jesus’ words in Matthew 7:20 remind us to pay attention to the fruit in people’s lives—not to criticize or condemn, but to discern truth and avoid unnecessary heartbreak. Actions reveal more than words ever will, and true character always shows through.

But while it’s wise to observe the fruit in others, it’s even more crucial to examine our own. Are we producing fruit that aligns with who we claim to be as followers of Christ? If I profess to be loving, am I showing kindness to the people around me? If I say I trust God, do my choices reflect faith or fear? Taking a daily inventory of our own hearts ensures that we’re living in alignment with God’s truth and growing in His likeness.

Being a genuine Christian goes beyond memorizing scripture or attending church regularly. It’s about embodying the love, patience, generosity, and selflessness of Christ. This requires obedience to the Holy Spirit’s guidance, even when it’s uncomfortable or inconvenient. Genuine faith is not just about the leaves we show; it’s about the fruit we bear. It’s the sacrifices we make for others, the patience we show in difficult situations, and the way we prioritize God’s will over our own.

Friend, take time today to reflect on your own fruit. Are there areas where you’ve been falling short? The good news is that God is ready to help you grow. When we’re rooted in Him, we don’t have to force good fruit—it’s a natural byproduct of walking in the Spirit. As you stay connected to God, trust that He will prune and shape you to produce a harvest that glorifies Him.

PRAYER
Father, thank you for the reminder to examine my fruit. I want my life to reflect your love and character in every way. Please help me to grow in areas where I fall short and to remain rooted in you. Teach me to be obedient to your Spirit and to live out my faith with integrity. Thank you for your grace that allows me to grow and bear fruit that honors you. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
