The Evening Service Healing

At sunset, the people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and laying his hands on each one, he healed them.

Luke 4:40

If I was  the writer of the book of Luke, my title for chapter 4 would have been ‘A day in the life of Jesus’ . I particularly find it interesting our discussions in the last three days have been a one-day experience of the life of Jesus.

First, he delivered the guy from the synagogue from some demons, then he moved to Peter’s house in the afternoon to heal his mother-in-law and later in the evening “…when the sun was setting, all those who had any who were sick with various diseases brought them to Him, and He laid His hands on every one of them and healed them. And demons also came out of many, crying, ‘You are the Son of God!’ But He rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew that He was the Christ.” (Luke 4:40-41 ESV)

What a scene! At the setting of the sun, people from all walks of life, burdened with various afflictions, brought their loved ones to Jesus. Note the powerful truth here: Jesus laid His hands on each one of them, bringing healing to every form of infirmity—physical, spiritual, and emotional.

Wait a minute, how could Jesus still have the strength to lay hands on every sick person at this meeting. This is literally his third ministry in one day! How could he still be full of energy? The truth is that the source of his energy is not in sufficient sleep or a balanced diet (although those are good), the strength of Jesus came directly from God. It is exactly because of this that Jesus is not limited by the nature of our struggles. Whether it’s a physical ailment, a spiritual battle, or an emotional wound, His touch has the power to bring restoration and freedom.

In this account, even the demons acknowledge Jesus as the Son of God, recognizing His authority over all realms. Our Saviour is not only a Healer; He is the All-Powerful God. There is no sickness too great, no bondage too strong, that His touch cannot overcome.

Therefore, as we bring our concerns before Him today, let’s surrender every infirmity at the feet of the One who not only heals but has dominion over all. Go to him in this faith, knowing that his power to heal has no limit. Take a moment to praise Him for His omnipotent love and surrender any form of affliction into His capable hands. Trust that, just as in that evening of healing, His touch brings complete and lasting restoration.

PRAYER
