If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand

Don’t you just love Jesus?
There’s something about the way Jesus presented simple parables that explains kingdom realities in a way that is so simple and easy to comprehend.
For instance, during one of his deliverance sessions, the teachers of the law who came down from Jerusalem said, “He is possessed by Beelzebul! And that only by the prince of demons is he driving out demons.” To make them understand the foolishness of that statement without telling them that they are being foolish, Jesus called them over to him and began to speak to them in parables: “How can Satan drive out Satan? If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. And if Satan opposes himself and is divided, he cannot stand; his end has come. (Mark 3:22-26).
The first emphasis of Jesus in this parable is that it is not normal for a kingdom that wants to remain strong to fight against itself, rather it seeks to fight against an enemy kingdom. This means that if a kingdom is against another kingdom, it will never support that kingdom, just like Satan will never support the agenda of Jesus’ kingdom.
However, this has a far reaching implication for even the citizens of the kingdoms too. In the same way that Jesus being the Prince of light, and Satan ruling over darkness will never have anything to do with each other, we who are citizens of the kingdom of light must treat the kingdom of darkness like Jesus would treat them. Infact, Paul put it this way, “Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light” (Ephesians 5:11-13)
As believers, we are called to embrace the light of Christ fully, rejecting any compromise with the darkness. The clash between these kingdoms demands a decisive stance, and we are to be vigilant in maintaining our allegiance to the kingdom of light.
“In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16). So, are you ready to shine your light and dispel darkness? Start this morning with prayer.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, help me to stand firm in my allegiance to the kingdom of light. Grant me the courage to expose the deeds of darkness and shine brightly with the light of Christ. May my life glorify You and draw others to Your truth. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
