After saying this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes..
John 9:6
We are still examining the sixth sign of Jesus in the Book of John. Yesterday, we saw how important it is for us to do the work of God. Jesus wants us to set our priorities right and take the work of God seriously.
Today, we want to look at the actual process of Jesus healing this man. It says in verse 6: “After saying this, he spat on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes.” After Jesus had taken His time to explain various things to His disciples, He proceeded to help this man. Just as it is written of the Messiah to heal the eyes of the blind, and we have seen this happen several times with Jesus, this man’s situation was different because he was born blind. This means he had never seen anything at all. Jesus’ actions reveal something important: how God intentionally created every part of the human body. Even though there were eyes on this man’s face, they were lacking something that only the Creator could diagnose just by looking at him. This is unlike modern technology, which scans the eyes and enables doctors to make many diagnoses, some of which are not always accurate.
This man’s eyes were missing something that the Creator had originally designed for every eye to have. So, Jesus spat on the ground and made some mud with the saliva. This points to a creative act by Jesus. He knew what was missing and created it for this man. Similarly, there might be things you are trusting God for, and the situation may be lacking something. But Jesus, the Creator, is with you today. He is more than capable of creating and restoring everything that is not right in you and in your life—whether it’s an ailment, a medical condition, a business issue, or anything else. You have the Creator with you, and not only is He powerful enough to do it, but He is also willing.
So, come before God today and present yourself to Him, believing that He is the One who calls those things that are not as though they were. He can bring forth the things you need in your life.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, thank You for creating me and making me who I am. I know that through You all things are made, and nothing exists without You. Come into my life and bring forth those things that are not, so that Your Name may be glorified in my life
