“And Moses said to the people, ‘Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever.'” – Exodus 14:13 (NKJV)
The Israelites found themselves trapped between Pharaoh’s army and the Red Sea. Panic set in as fear gripped their hearts-they had no weapons, no way of escape, and nowhere to run. But in the middle of their chaos, God’s word through Moses was simple yet powerful: “Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord.” When their strength was not enough, God reminded them that the battle was His. Sometimes victory doesn’t come by fighting harder but by surrendering fully.
Isn’t that a lesson we all need? When backed into a corner by life’s pressures-whether it’s financial struggles, health battles, or emotional storms-our instinct is to fix, fight, or flee. Yet God often calls us to pause, trust, and watch Him work. Stillness doesn’t mean doing nothing; it means refusing to let fear drive us and choosing to rest in God’s power rather than our own.
Standing still also positions us to see clearly. When we’re frantic, we lose perspective. But when we quiet our hearts, we begin to recognize God’s hand at work. The Israelites could only see Pharaoh behind them and the sea before them, but God had already prepared a way through the waters. What looked like an ending was actually the setup for a miracle.
So, where do you need to “stand still” today? Instead of letting fear dictate your next move, place your confidence in God’s strength. Surrender the fight to Him and lift your eyes above the problem. When you stop striving, you give God room to show His power. And when He delivers, like Israel, you’ll know beyond doubt-it was His hand, not yours.
Prayer:
Lord, teach me to be still when fear rises and the way forward seems blocked. Help me surrender my battles to You and trust that You are fighting on my behalf. Open my eyes to see Your salvation and remind me that the victory is always Yours. In Jesus’ name, amen.
