The fear of missing out, or FOMO, is not new. It just got a modern name. It is that feeling that you are behind in life, missing an opportunity, or lacking something others seem to have. It is the fear that everyone else is moving forward while you are stuck. Eve experienced this long before social media existed. She had everything a person could dream of, yet she felt she was missing something because the serpent convinced her that there was “more.”
Eve’s fall began with comparison and curiosity outside of contentment. She had the whole garden, but her focus shifted to the one thing she did not have. That is what FOMO does-it blinds you to God’s goodness and makes you crave what He has withheld for your protection. The serpent still uses the same tactic today. He whispers that you are missing out if you don’t join the trend, take the shortcut, or compromise your values. But every lie from him leads to loss, not gain.
Beloved, you are not missing out on anything that is good for you. God is not keeping blessings from you; He is preparing you for them. If something is not His will, you do not need it. True peace comes from trusting that God knows what you need and when you need it. What he withholds is not punishment but protection.
Be content with what God has given you. Do not compare your process or timing with others. You already belong where it matters most-in God’s family. Everything that is meant for you will come to you in His perfect time.
Prayer:
Father, thank you for reminding me that I am not missing out on anything that is good for me. Help me to trust your timing and to rest in your provision. Deliver me from comparison and discontentment. Teach me to stay focused on your will and to be satisfied with your blessings. In Jesus’ name, amen.
