A Year of Opportunities

Welcome to a new year, and not just any year, but a year overflowing with opportunities. God is intentional with seasons, and when heaven opens doors, it is never by accident. Yet scripture reminds us that opportunity does not exist in a vacuum. The same year that God intends for progress is the year the enemy seeks resistance. The devil does not create opportunities, but he studies them, and he does everything he can to distract, delay, and derail God’s people from walking into what has already been prepared.

That is why the Holy Spirit gives us a clear roadmap in Ephesians 5:15–20. Paul urges us to live wisely, not carelessly, not casually, and not reactively. Wisdom, in this passage, is not defined by intelligence or education. It is defined by how intentionally we live.

God describes wisdom through four practical expressions. First, we are to make the most of every opportunity, especially in how we steward time, money, and relationships. Opportunities do not announce themselves loudly; they often show up quietly, disguised as ordinary moments that demand discernment. Second, wisdom requires a lifestyle of seeking the will of God. Not occasionally, not only in major decisions, but in all things. Third, we are commanded to desire the infilling of the Spirit continually. Yesterday’s filling is not enough for today’s battles or tomorrow’s assignments. Finally, wisdom is sustained by a lifestyle of worship and prayer. These are not religious activities; they are spiritual oxygen.

As we step into 2026, God is not merely calling us to hope for a better year. He is calling us to walk deliberately, spiritually alert, and deeply aligned with his wisdom. Over the next few days, we will slow down and unpack each of these four pillars. This journey is not about pressure; it is about positioning. When you live wisely, opportunities no longer pass you by; you walk straight into them with clarity and confidence.

Prayer
Father, thank you for bringing me into a new year filled with purpose and opportunity. I ask for wisdom to walk carefully and intentionally, not as one who drifts, but as one who is led by your spirit. Help me to recognize the opportunities you place before me and to steward them well. Align my heart with your will, fill me afresh with your spirit, and teach me to live a life of prayer and worship. This year, I choose to walk wisely, in Jesus’ name.
