Called on Holy Ground

 “Then He said, ‘Do not draw near this place. Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground.’” – Exodus 3:5 (NKJV)

Moses wasn’t in a temple when God called him. He wasn’t at a special service or on a spiritual retreat. He was doing his everyday job-tending sheep in the wilderness-when suddenly, an ordinary bush became extraordinary. The ground he had walked on countless times before was transformed into holy ground, simply because God showed up. This is a powerful reminder that God doesn’t just meet us in church buildings; He shows up in the ordinary moments of our lives and makes them sacred.

How many times have we missed God’s voice because we were waiting for something spectacular, when in fact He was speaking through the ordinary? The kitchen table where you pray with your children, the office where you quietly choose integrity, the car where you whisper prayers between meetings-these can all become holy ground. God delights in revealing His presence in the spaces we often overlook.

When Moses took off his sandals, it was a symbol of reverence and surrender. To stand on holy ground means to acknowledge that God is here and to respond in humility. Sometimes, that response looks like setting aside distractions, quieting our hearts, or simply being willing to listen. Holiness isn’t about the place itself, but about God’s presence filling that place.

So, what “bushes” might God be using to call your attention today? Maybe it’s a conversation that stirs your heart, a scripture that suddenly feels alive, or a situation that forces you to pause. The question is: will you recognize it and treat it as holy ground? Remember, the same God who met Moses in the wilderness is still meeting His people in ordinary spaces, turning them into the birthplace of divine callings.

Prayer:
Lord, open my eyes to see You in the ordinary moments of my life. Teach me to treat my everyday spaces as holy ground when You call. Help me respond with reverence, surrender, and readiness to follow wherever You lead. In Jesus’ name, amen.
