Fear is a natural part of living in a broken world, but God has not called you to be afraid. Do you see the difference? You might feel afraid sometimes—that’s normal. God understands your frame, your emotions, and the challenges around you. That’s why His command is not “do not feel afraid,” but “do not be afraid.” Fear as a feeling is temporary, but fear as a being—a state of your heart—can keep you bound if you let it. The question is, how will you respond when fear knocks on your door?
Psalm 46:1-2 says, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear.” Notice the choice in that verse: we will not fear. It doesn’t deny the presence of trouble or the reality of fear-inducing situations. Instead, it declares that God’s help outweighs the fear. What is your heart’s default setting when challenges arise? Do you respond from a place of faith or from fear?
Take a moment to reflect on your recent responses to fear. Have you allowed fleeting feelings to define your actions or your trust in God? Remember, faith is not the absence of fear—it’s the decision to trust God despite the fear. He promises to be your helper, your refuge, and your strength. When you choose faith over fear, you’re not denying your emotions; you’re declaring that God is greater than anything you face.
Today, God invites you to examine your heart and choose faith as your default setting. Fear may come, but it doesn’t have to stay. Let your bold declaration be, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear.” With God on your side, you can face life’s uncertainties with confidence.
Lord, thank you for reminding me that you are my helper and my refuge. I admit that I sometimes feel afraid, but I choose today to respond in faith instead of fear. Help me to reset the condition of my heart so that my default is to trust you in every situation. Thank you for being my ever-present help and for giving me the strength to walk boldly.
