Give an Answer for Your Hope

 Ezra 5:11-12 (NIV)
“This is the answer they gave us: ‘We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth, and we are rebuilding the temple that was built many years ago, one that a great king of Israel built and finished. But because our ancestors angered the God of heaven, he gave them into the hands of Nebuchadnezzar…’”

There’s a quiet power in knowing exactly who you are and why you do what you do. In Ezra 5:11–12, when officials questioned the Israelites about their bold decision to rebuild the temple, the people didn’t stammer or shrink back. They stood tall and responded with clarity: “We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth.” No apologies. No hiding. Just humble confidence in their divine assignment.

If you’ve ever been questioned about your faith-why you serve, why you believe, or why you keep showing up when things get hard-you know how intimidating that can feel. But moments like these are not just challenges; they’re opportunities. When we’re asked to give an answer, we’re invited to share our hope. Not to impress or argue, but to point others to the One who keeps us anchored.

What’s striking about the builders’ response is their honesty. They acknowledged past failure, owned the consequences, and still declared their present purpose with boldness. That’s a model for us: don’t hide your story-redeem it. Your testimony doesn’t need to be perfect to be powerful. What matters is that it points to the faithfulness of God.

So the next time someone asks you why you’re still believing, still building, still following Jesus-be ready. Share with clarity. Speak with love. And never be ashamed to say, “I am a servant of the God of heaven and earth.” That simple truth carries more hope than you know.

Prayer:
Lord, help me to be bold and clear when I’m asked about my faith. Remind me that I don’t have to have all the answers-I just need to point to you. Give me the courage to speak when the moment comes and the grace to share my hope with gentleness and truth.
