I will Give It to You

Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given to you, just as I promised to Moses.” — Joshua 1:3

The ways of God are indeed past finding. In this verse, God promises Joshua that He has already given the Israelites every place they set their foot. This powerful declaration underscores a crucial principle: while the land was given to Israel, they had to actively claim it. Israel could not conquer Canaan with their wisdom and strength alone; they needed God to work in and through them. However, God would not defeat their enemies if they remained passive. He called them into a partnership, requiring their active participation to see His will accomplished.

Every inch of Canaan had to be claimed by faith. Israel had to step out, putting their foot down on the land, whether it was wilderness or fertile plain, and declare, “This is mine by the gift of God.” As they asserted their right, God made it a reality. This same principle applies to us today. God has promised us abundant blessings and all we need for life and godliness through His word. But we must still contend for these promises through prayer and faith.

As believers, we are called to actively engage with God’s promises. We must step out in faith, praying and claiming what God has freely given us. This requires an active, participatory faith that works in partnership with God. We must declare God’s promises over our lives and circumstances, asserting our right to the blessings He has already provided. Just as Israel had to walk upon the land to claim it, we must walk in faith, claiming God’s promises for our lives.
